Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
Your nose is a central feature of your face affecting its aesthetic appeal from any angle. An evenly proportioned nose size, shape and profile create a big impact in harmonizing & balancing the face and ultimately one’s overall appearance.
Rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping surgery that can correct disproportionate or irregular shaped noses or make subtle aesthetic changes to improve its appearance and/or function. In some cases, nasal reshaping can correct a breathing problem.
The cosmetic surgeons offer rhinoplasty for men and women who wish to improve the general size of their nose making it more in proportion to the face. Specific concerns that can be corrected include:
- A bump on their nasal bridge
- A flat appearance to the bridge of the nose
- Nasal tip that sags or hangs down
- Nasal tip that is thickened or bulbous
- Nostrils that are excessively wide
- A nose that is off-center or asymmetric
- A nose that had a traumatic or disfiguring injury

Q & A
How is a rhinoplasty performed?
This nose reshaping procedure generally involves the surgical refining or removal of nasal bone and cartilage from just below the surface of the skin on the bridge, tip and/or nostril area. This refinement is followed by the re-draping of the skin over the newly designed underlying nasal structure.

How long does the procedure take?
Under regular circumstances & conditions, a rhinoplasty procedure can take around one hour to perform. This duration may vary depending on how complicated the surgery is, such as those where the bone and cartilaginous structures need to be reconstructed or built up, can take much longer.

I am concerned about scarring on my face. Where will the incisions be made?
In general, surgical scars are hidden from view since nearly all incisions are made from within the nasal passage or nostril area. Exceptions include rhinoplasty as it involves tapering flared nostrils. This procedure would involve incisions in the natural crease line to the side of just below the nostril itself which are still relatively hidden leaving small and usually insignificant scars.

How will my recovery be after the procedure?
It is normal for the operated area to be quite tender for several months following surgery. Any discomfort could be controlled by pain medication prescribed by our surgeon. Inevitable facial bruising and swelling occurs following rhinoplasty and it is usual for patients to experience a sensation of nasal stuffiness for several weeks. Most patients are required to wear a nasal splint for a week post-op to firmly support the nose.

How soon can I resume regular activities?
In general, patients who have undergone rhinosplasty are up and about within two days and find themselves back to their regular sedentary activities a week following surgery. Your surgeon at New York Anti-Aging Centers will discuss specific guidelines for gradually resuming your other activities specifically those that you would need to avoid for a certain period of time (e.g. sports, sexual relations, outdoor activities).
